3D Mammography at SJRA: The Most Advanced Technology in the Hands of the Most Experienced Women’s Imagers
By William F. Muhr, Jr., M.D., D.A.B.R., President, South Jersey Radiology
When your life is on the line, experience matters!
South Jersey Radiology has offered 3D mammography imaging longer than any other imaging center in New Jersey. So, it stands to reason that our South Jersey Radiology breast imaging specialists have THE most experience with this life-saving technology.
Each member of our women’s imaging team has been with SJRA since we began offering 3D mammography some five years ago. In fact, all of our women’s imagers have been with SJRA for at least seven years. Each radiologist has been recertified in 3D mammography at least once…that’s a lot of stability on our women’s imaging team and a lot of 3D imaging experience!
We have believed in this technology since Day One. That’s why we were first in the region to invest in state-of-the-art 3D mammography equipment.
We know that 3D mammography saves lives by enabling earlier detection of potentially life-threatening cancers. It also reduces unnecessary callbacks, providing peace of mind for our patients.
SJRA charges about one third the amount that an academic/university facility charges for 3D mammography. Medicare began covering 3D mammography in January 2015. Coverage policies for private insurers vary, but some, including Cigna, Amerihealth, Horizon, and United are now covering 3D mammography services. Not every insurance plan does; however, those that are not, are quickly becoming the minority. If your insurance carrier is an outlier, call them and ask why.
SJRA is the first in the region to receive the Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence (BICOE) designation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). And we are still the only ACR-designated Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence in the region.
What does that mean for you? It means you can count on SJRA’s dedicated women’s imaging centers for mammography, as well as other breast imaging and breast biopsy procedures.
It means you can rest assured that all of SJRA’s breast imaging specialists and technologists have received enhanced education and training. That’s important since imaging studies—even those produced with cutting-edge 3D technology—are only as good as the radiologist who evaluates them.
Finally, it means that SJRA has earned its reputation for excellence. The most advanced technology in the hands of the most experienced women’s imagers, as well as the most compassionate and caring staff – that’s what makes SJRA great!
