DIGITAL MAMMO DOES NOT CAUSE OVERDIAGNOSIS

Critics of screening mammography have claimed digital mammograms cause the over diagnosis of “insignificant” cancers and lead to overtreatment. A new study in the journal Radiology shows digital mammography increases cancer detection over traditional mammography without evidence of increased “over diagnosis.” Fear of “over diagnosis” should not prevent women from following American Cancer Society guidelines for having screening mammography.
