BEFORE STOPPING ANY MEDICATION, SPEAK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN
Do not have any seafood for three (3) days prior to your appointment
Do not eat or drink anything two (2) hours prior to your appointment.
Bring any recent thyroid blood work or have your doctor’s office fax it to the office where your appointment has been scheduled
You will need to STOP taking the following medications for the recommended time indicated prior to your study, as they may adversely affect your results. Please consult with your physician and/or pharmacist if you have concerns regarding your medications.
Radiographic contrast (e.g. ct dye) – Stop 6 weeks prior to study
Thyroid hormone-synthroid (levoxyl, levothyroxine ) – Stop 6 weeks prior to study
Amour thyroid – Stop 4 weeks prior to study
Cytomel – Stop 2 weeks prior to study
Anti-thyroid drugs – Stop 5 days prior to study
- Ptu (propylthiuracil)
- Tapazole (methimazole)
- Perchlorate
Topical iodine compounds – 4 weeks
Oral iodides & medication containing iodine – Stop 4 weeks prior to study
- Lugol’s solution
- Potassium iodide
- Kelp
- Anti-parasitic drugs-iodochlorhydroquin
- Anti-arrhythmic-amiodarone hydrochloride
Other medications – Stop 1 week prior to study
- Multi-vitamins only / fish oil supplements
- All nutrition drinks and/or shakes
- Antihistamines
- Cough & cold medications
- Butazolidin
- Acth & corticosteroids
- Sulfonamides
24 hours’ notice is REQUIRED if you cancel or reschedule your study. Failure to notify us may result in a radiopharmaceutical recovery fee, not billable to your insurance company.
