R.F. ablation is a cutting-edge procedure that we offer exclusively at Virtua
Marlton location. The procedure is a minimally invasive option for treating
diseased tissue performed under CT- guidance by our Interventional Radiologists;
it is performed under local or general anesthesia. The RFA system combines
a specialized electrical generator with a needle electrode designed to rapidly
heat and destroy diseased tissue, leaving the surrounding healthy tissue unharmed.
The needle is inserted through the skin and is guided to the diseased tissue
using CT guidance. Radiofrequency energy is activated at the tip to heat and
destroy the tissue from the inside out.
This process may need to be repeated depending on the tissue size and location.
This diseased tissue then gradually shrinks and is replaced with scar tissue.
RFA procedures are done in the Radiology department at Virtua Marlton for your
patient's safety.
