No Prep

48 hours’ notice is REQUIRED if you cancel or reschedule your study. Failure to notify us may result in a $200.00 radiopharmaceutical recovery fee, not billable to your insurance company.

Drink 16 oz. of water one (1) hour prior to your study.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a list of your medications.

BEFORE STOPPING ANY MEDICATION, SPEAK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN.

TO PREPARE FOR YOUR DATSCAN, YOU WILL NEED TO STOP TAKING THE FOLLOWING MEDICATIONS:

  • Ephedrine, ketamine, isoflurane – Stop 1 day prior to study
  • Cocaine, methylphenidate – Stop 2 days prior to study
  • Methamphetamine, mazindol, modafinil – Stop 3 days prior to study
  • Benztropine, fentanyl – Stop 5 days prior to study
  • Dexamphetamine – Stop 7 days prior to study
  • Bupropion – Stop 8 days prior to study
  • Phentermine, phencyclidine – Stop 14 days prior to study

THE DAY OF DATSCAN:

Bring your script, referral/authorization, insurance card and a form of identification.

Bring a List of your current medications.

Drink 16oz of water one (1) hour prior to the study.

Wear comfortable clothing.

 

 

Do not eat or drink anything four (4) hours prior to your appointment time. This includes gum, ice, and candy.

Do not eat or drink four (4) hours prior to your appointment time, this includes gum, mints, any throat lozenges, and water.

If you have a Gluten allergy, bring your own bread to the appointment.

If you are on Insulin, please bring it with you to your test.

The study takes approximately 4 – 5 hours

You will need to STOP taking the following medications 48 hours prior to your study (Unless this test is being ordered to check the effectiveness of these medications) as they may adversely affect your results. Please consult with your physician and/or pharmacist if you have concerns regarding your medications.

  • Opiates-Narcotics-prescribed medication for pain-(Codeine, Demerol, Dilaudid, Morphine, OxyCodone, OxyContin, Percodan, Percocet, Tylenol 3, Tramadol, Ultram)
  • Antispasmodic Agents-(Baclofen, Bentyl, Donnatal, Levsin, Robinul, Zofran)
  • Atropine
  • Benzodiazepine-(Diazepam aka Valium, Xanax)
  • Nifedpine-( Adalat, Procardia)
  • Phentolamine
  • Progesterone
  • Octreotide-(Sandostatin)
  • Theophylline

Do not eat or drink anything four (4) hours prior to your appointment.

Do not take any pain medication (prescription narcotics), twelve (12) hours prior to your appointment.

The study takes approximately 4 – 5 hours

If you have any outside CT, MRI & Ultrasound related studies, bring the images with you to the appointment.

Drink 16 oz. of water approximately one (1) hour prior to your appointment. You do not need to drink more than 16 oz. and you may empty your bladder.

Drink 16 oz. of water approximately one (1) hour prior to your appointment. You do not need to drink more than 16 oz. and you may empty your bladder.

If you are taking any Diuretics (aka water pill); do NOT take it the day of the study.

BEFORE STOPPING ANY MEDICATION, SPEAK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN

Do not eat or drink anything except clear liquids four (4) hours prior to your study.

One (1) hour prior to your study, drink 16 oz. of water (you may empty your bladder).

Do not take any blood pressure medication (including ACE inhibitors) for three (3) days prior to your appointment.

No Citrus drinks 1 hour prior to appointment.

Do not have any Nicotine or Caffeine products 12 hours prior to the study, including products labeled Decaffeinated

Do not eat or drink anything four (4) hours prior to your appointment.

Do not have any Nicotine or Caffeine products 12 hours prior to the study, including products labeled Decaffeinated

This test may take up to 4 hours to complete.

BEFORE STOPPING ANY MEDICATION, SPEAK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN

Do not have any seafood for three (3) days prior to your appointment

Do not eat or drink anything two (2) hours prior to your appointment.

Bring any recent thyroid blood work or have your doctor’s office fax it to the office where your appointment has been scheduled

You will need to STOP taking the following medications for the recommended time indicated prior to your study, as they may adversely affect your results. Please consult with your physician and/or pharmacist if you have concerns regarding your medications.

Radiographic contrast (e.g. ct dye) – Stop 6 weeks prior to study

Thyroid hormone-synthroid (levoxyl, levothyroxine ) – Stop 6 weeks prior to study

Amour thyroid – Stop 4 weeks prior to study

Cytomel – Stop 2 weeks prior to study

Anti-thyroid drugs – Stop 5 days prior to study

  • Ptu (propylthiuracil)
  • Tapazole (methimazole)
  • Perchlorate

Topical iodine compounds – 4 weeks

Oral iodides & medication containing iodine – Stop 4 weeks prior to study

  • Lugol’s solution
  • Potassium iodide
  • Kelp
  • Anti-parasitic drugs-iodochlorhydroquin
  • Anti-arrhythmic-amiodarone hydrochloride

Other medications – Stop 1 week prior to study

  • Multi-vitamins only / fish oil supplements
  • All nutrition drinks and/or shakes
  • Antihistamines
  • Cough & cold medications
  • Butazolidin
  • Acth & corticosteroids
  • Sulfonamides
