Ultrasound (Echo, Sonogram)

For instructions for your Ultrasound (Echo, Sonogram) appointment, click on the plus (+) sign next to the name of your procedure below:

Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before the study. This includes gum, ice or candy. (For Infants:  Skip the baby’s last feeding, bring a bottle to feed baby during study)

Purchase a Fleet Enema from your local pharmacy. The enema must be completed 3 hours prior to your study.

No prep

1 ½ hours prior to your procedure you must empty your bladder.  Over the next 30 minutes, you must drink 4 cups of water totaling 32 ounces. Do not urinate after drinking the 4 cups of water.

For Children: Finish 1 hour prior to appt…….

Less than 5 years, drink on way to appointment.

Less than 1 month: Drink 3 – 4.5 ounces (90-135 ml)

1 month – 1 year: Drink 6 – 12 ounces (180-360ml)

1 – 5 years old: Drink 12 -18 ounces (360-540 ml)

6 – 12 years old: Drink 18 – 24 ounces (540- 720ml)

13 – 15 years old: Drink 24 – 32 ounces (720- 960ml)

 

On the day of your test, you may eat normally and take medications as prescribed by your doctor.

This test involves drinking a dairy product, if there is a history of dairy intolerance, the patient is requested to bring their own tolerable dairy product (approx. 6 oz.).
